We often refer to the Kanban card as a work item; task.
Via the card linking feature, you can group cards together and create a network of cards (Relative cards, Mirror cards) or you can create a hierarchy between the cards and turn a single card into a Project (parent card) that consists of 5 smaller cards/tasks (child cards).
2. How to link cards?
There are several ways to link already existing cards and to create new linked cards in the system:
2.1. Link existing cards by drag & drop them directly on the board
Press the CRTL key and Drag & Drop the selected card on the top of the card you wish to link it to -> select one of the type connections from the drop-down menu that appears: parent/child/relative/predecessor/successor. The cards will be automatically linked to each other.
2.2 Create new linked cards and link existing cards in the system from the Links tab "Board View" mode of the card
Open up the card's Link tab - select the Board view mode to display all results in a Kanban board view.
For better visibility, the card, which Link's tab you have opened is colored in yellow. If there are any cards, linked to it (so far), they will be visible in accordance with their current progress status (requested; in progress; done)
The Links panel helps you to create new linked cards that will be related to the Yellow one - these cards will be physically present on the boards once you complete the action.
The aim of the tab is to facilitate the breakdown process of your work*.
Moreover, you can connect the yellow card to an existing card in the system.**
* Use the "Create new link" drop-down menu - select the relation you want to define (child/parent/relative/predecessor/successor) -> the system will prompt you to locate the newly created card on the mini board panel that will appear (define the board and the card position) - -> fill in the card properties and create it.
** Use the last option in the dropdown list "Link to existing card" to connect the yellow card with an already existing card in the system.
Open up the card's Link tab - select the Table view mode to display all linked cards (if any) as a list in the panel. Use the "Configure Results" button to extend the data you get for the cards - you can easily add: description, tad, size, etc. -> just select the pills from the configuration panel and Apply your changes.
Use the "Create new link" drop-down menu to create a new linked card or link the currently openned card to an existing card in the system
2.4 Create new linked cards and link existing cards from the Links tab Graph view mode of the card.
Open up the card's Link tab - select the Graph view mode to see the graphical representation of the cards’ connection (if any).
2.5 Create new linked cards via the Card Context menu
Open the context menu from the upper right corner of your card → select Link/Copy → choose the type of relation -> position the card on the mini Kanban board ( define board and position) -> fill in the card details and Add it in ordder to create and automatically connect it to the original one.
3. How to copy parameters of the original card upon card linking?
You can also automatically copy some of the parameters of the original card -> click on the sheet icon to the right side of the desired card type (this is not a mandatory).
A new panel (mini-map - Image 1) pops up and the system prompts you to identify where to create and place the new card.
Step 1: From the dropdown list -> select the Board where you want the card to be located.
Step 2: Define the section (column and swimlane) where the card is to be created. You can do that by clicking with your mouse on the desired section on the mini-map.
3. If you have selected to copy parameters from the original card, there is an additional step in which you can define which card details of the parent card to be duplicated. Click on "Continue". The system will open up a new card –> fill in the rest of the card fields (if needed) -> click on "Add card" to create the card in the predefined position.
