What are Exit Criteria?
Exit Criteria in Kanbanize is a configuration that adds requirements to a column that have to be completed in order to be able to move a card out of the current column and continue to the next stage. Exit Criteria allows users with the relevant permissions to configure the conditions in each column on a given board.
By implementing exit criteria on your board, everyone working on it will have a better idea about where in the process each card is and what more needs to be done in order to move it forward.
Note: The Exit criteria prevent cards only from moving right on the board (forward in the board process) and do not affect moving cards to the left on the board (backward in the board process).
A typical example is to require approval from multiple people in order to proceed with a purchasing request.
This is the visual representation of the Exit Criteria on a card:
How to create Exit Criteria for your Board?
Navigate to the 'Edit Workflow' to open the board configuration menu.
Important: To set Exit Criteria on a given board, you need to have the "Edit Workflow" privilege. Alternatively, you need to be a Workspace Manager for the corresponding workspace or an Account Owner.
To add an Exit Criteria to a column, navigate to the gear icon in the desired column and open it. Scroll down to the exit criteria menu. From there you will be able to input text to describe the exit criteria you would like to add. When finished, click on the Add button to save it. You will be able to reorder the Exit Criteria and edit/delete them.
How to add a comment to Exit Criteria?
In order to leave a comment on an exit criterion, you have to hover over the criterion, to make the bubble icon pop up.
When you click on the speech bubble icon you will open the following window in which you can add the comment you wish to.
Note: In order to leave a comment, you have to mark the exit criterion checked. Before or after adding the comment. If you want to delete the comment you can either open the bubble icon of the checked criterion and delete the contents of the comment field.
Important: If you uncheck the criterion after leaving a comment - the comments get automatically deleted
Exit Criteria in Use
Important: If a card is linked as a child to an initiative, and the initiative is located in a column that has exit criteria configured, moving the child card in a way that would cause the initiative to move out of its column will be stopped as the initiative's criteria would also need to be completed. By default, in the closed card view, you can only see the uncompleted exit criteria for the card - as soon as a criterion is met, it will disappear. In the open card view, you can see exit criteria from all applicable columns and subcolumns. You customize these visualizations by going to the configure card view of the board sidebar.
